Garcetti vs Greuel LA Mayoral Debate Thursday April 11, 2013

Eric Garcetti and Wendy Greuel had a one hour debate today, 4/11/13, in the race to replace Villaraigosa as mayor of Los Angeles.

Who won the debate?

Undoubtedly, the debate was an advantage for Garcetti, though both performed well.  Garcetti’s lead has been widening in most polls that are conducted using the same methodology, the latest reported by ABC showed a 9 point lead, including a 5 point lead amongst women.

A debate in which both debaters perform well automatically plays to Garcetti’s advantage.

Furthermore Garcetti maintains his ability to deliver reasoned, measured, and consistent answers while deftly contrasting that with some of Greuel’s inconsistent positioning on such things as pension reforms and removing public employee raises.  Greuel would have needed to accomplish much more in this debate than she did and will ultimately face a steeper uphill battle with the time remaining before the final runoff vote.
