Garcetti has the upperhand now that Greuel is spending all her money in an attempt to stop the downward spiral of her campaign. It may have given her a temporary bump in the polls.
However, now the Garcetti ads can pace themselves, and a counter-attack at some of the attack ads may be necessary and understandable.
Either way, it is an interesting gamble by Greuel. I think it is important to avoid chasing an opponent trying to set a new pace, but a good idea to respond. That has been done with some standard commercials. Now likely a few counter-attack ads may be necessary and justified.
If I had a chance to design an ad, which I have not as I am not directly working with either campaign, I would have had fun with it.
Perhaps a colored pencil drawing of workers who support Garcetti and trees planted in the city to highlight Garcetti’s green credentials, some supporters from business groups in Hollywood and of animation studios which Garcetti will be working to keep in Los Angeles as Mayor, to tie it all in. Garcetti has solid support from business and private sector unions, studios and ethnic groups. Not sure if this fits now with the way the campaign is being pushed by the Greuel campaign.
Oh well, one cannot let them dictate the entire campaign tone nor let the ads go unanswered.
